Brooklyn’s Local Weatherman dives straight into that tension with Weighing, the gripping second preview of their upcoming EP Right One. The track hits with raw urgency of distorted guitars, dream-tinged layers, and lyrics which confronts the pressure of losing oneself. It’s a sharp blend of melody magnifying the band’s emo-leaning hooks, which critics have praised their spiraling emotional force. Peeling back the song’s evolution, songwriter Ford Murphy explains:
‘Weighing’ is about feeling lost and recognizing that things need to change. This song started out on classical guitar and evolved into something much dreamier once we started playing it together as a band. When we recorded this song we probably laid down 40 tracks of guitar, and tried to lean into a more layered, guitar-pedal-y vibe while still keeping our sound.
Powered by their anthemic debut album, that layered guitar-pedal haze amplifies the track’s confessional pull while keeping their DIY spirit intact. “Weighing” follows the earlier single Thread, a riff-driven search for identity.
