Robyn Hitchcock Is Still Chasing The Unknown With "Yesterday's Rain"

Artists can spend a career repeating their greatest ideas and Robyn Hitchcock continues rewriting the rules of his own imagination. His latest single, Yesterday's Rain, arrives as another reminder that surreal storytelling and classic guitar craftsmanship remain a powerful combination when they're guided by genuine curiosity. The song balances bright Brit-rock melodies with dreamlike imagery, with Hitchcock inviting listeners to enjoy getting lost inside the puzzle. That same playful spirit carries into the new poolside music video directed by Emmy Award-winning filmmaker Scott Jacobson, whose cast includes comedians Maria Bamford, Eugene Mirman, and David Herman. Hitchcock proves that originality has no expiration date, even six decades into an extraordinary career. He explains:

Yesterday's rain falls on tomorrow's parade. The sins of the past call the shots for the future. And on the way, you get the flag, the lilac tomb, and the crocodile on skis. It's all good! More classic Brit-rock, played as only Americans can.

That restless creativity continues across The Confuser, Hitchcock's 25th solo studio album and his first full collection of original material in nearly four years, arriving July 24 through Tiny Ghost Records. Produced by Brad Jones and Jordan Lehning in Nashville, the record features contributions from Jeremy Fetzer, Eric Slick, Todd Bolden, Gillian Welch, and longtime Soft Boys collaborator Kimberley Rew. Earlier releases including I Am This Thing, My Dead Astronaut, and How To Feel Alright have already hinted at an album built around life's biggest questions without ever losing its wit.
