We archive our hearts in old things, and sometimes they haunt us gently. New Orleans musician Sleep Habits, the moniker of Alan Howard, leans into soft storytelling and lived-in soundscapes on his latest EP Mourning Doves. The five-track project features delicate acoustics, nostalgic tones, and hushed, slow-burning intimacy. Recorded live in a home setting alongside collaborators Tyler Scurlock, Noa Jamir, and Quinn Bankston, Howard focused on preserving the space's natural acoustics. Howard creates a hazy and heartfelt meditation on memory, place, and emotional permanence. Howard shared:
I wanted to capture the sound of the space we were in.

That intent is beautifully realized on tracks like Hold Your Name, where the ambient reverb becomes part of the emotional arc. The EP’s title track is a mournful closer which sounds like a letter never sent. From the twangy warmth of Antique Mall to the ghostly stillness of Helen’s House, Sleep Habits brings the listener into a living room soundscape that feels as much like a diary as a record.
