Some songs knock on the door; Red Flag comes through the wall. Austin noise-punk band TEAR DUNGEON releases the final preview of Squirm, due October 2 through TODO Records, while announcing a sprawling North American tour. Across these songs, distortion behaves like another section in the band, swelling around the riff but pulling back just enough for the next impact to register. The track drives uphill on a riff with drums and guitars pulling against each. That push-and-pull gives the chaos a spine, without letting the ensemble scatter. The result is loud and direct, before anyone has time to negotiate with it. The band reduced that pressure into one vivid statement:

'Red Flag' is the final preview of our blistering new Squirm record. Us looking at you looking at us. Red in the face. Sweaty and screaming. Bleeding. Face down. Red flag.

Tracked by Stuart Sikes, mixed by John Michael Landon at Estuary Recording, and mastered by Greg Obis at Chicago Mastering Service, "Squirm" turns toward police brutality, empty piety, and social rot. The band’s full attack Andrew Cashen’s vocals, twin guitars from Johnny Dowey and Will Grover, and the rhythm section of Chris Prorock and Jason Reece keep the material confrontational but coordinated. The tour begins with an album-release show at 29th Street Ballroom in Austin on October 9. Listen to "Red Flag," pre-order "Squirm," and follow Tear Dungeon on INSTAGRAM, BANDCAMP, and YOUTUBE.
