The Academy Is… step back into their own sound with Almost There. It’s a complete project that feels less like a comeback and more like a continuation interrupted by time. Eighteen years later, the band doesn’t chase who they were. There’s a noticeable patience in the writing, where urgency once drove everything forward, now replaced with control, intention, and space. William Beckett’s voice balances familiarity with a deeper shift in awareness. Mike Carden’s guitar work moves between shimmering leads and restrained texture, while Adam Siska’s basslines stay grounded and deliberate. The album maintains a sense of control, letting each instrument contribute to a broader emotional arc. Beckett had to say:
'Almost Here' was the beginning. 'Almost There' is the reflection. It’s about checking in with who you thought you’d be twenty years later, seeing what changed, what stuck, and what still feels like home.

There’s a maturity in how these moments are constructed, where the band allows space for hesitation, reflection, and even discomfort before resolving anything. Tracks like 2005 and L Train capture that balance—where rhythm and melody work in tandem, building momentum without sacrificing clarity. With "Almost There," The Academy Is… aren’t simply revisiting their past—they’re recontextualizing it. As they continue their 20th anniversary tour and step onto stages like Warped Tour 2026, that same balance carries into their live presence—where old songs meet new perspectives.
