Against The Current Carry "Till Death & Back" Through The Fire

Written By: Big C

A promise sounds different once it has survived the fire. Against The Current carry that cost through Till Death & Back, a third studio album which places devotion beside the changes survival demands. Chrissy Costanza, Dan Gow and Will Ferri extend their pop-punk beginnings into a broader alternative-rock presentation, pairing cinematic scale with intimate songwriting. Ferri executive produced the album with production contributions from Erik Ron, Josh Gilbert, Morwell and Josh Saldata. Musically, the album’s scale sets up a useful contrast with those private subjects. A recurring theme can work like a musical motif, giving separate songs a shared identity even when their subjects move in different directions. Costanza describes the promise connecting its songs:
Fate is the thread running through every song on this album, the belief that what's meant for you is bound to you across time. The cost is the fire, the fight, the version of yourself you don't get back. Till Death & Back is the promise that no matter how far you go, the thread never breaks, not even in death.

Focus track Ashes To Glory gives the record’s destruction-and-rebirth imagery a central point of return. The pressure already explored on White Noise combines with Heavenly and Always You & I approaching devotion from different angles. Meanwhile Dead Man Walking confronts survival and becomes unfamiliar to yourself. Protégé adds the influence and power dynamics of relationships, keeping transformation connected to the people who help shape it.
