In the rearview of heartbreak, every turn still hums your name. Australian indie duo Royel Otis just dropped an emotionally rich yet breezy gem with their new single car, a dreamy departure ride that marks the next chapter of their evolving sound. The track is a deceptively minimal jangle-pop anthem co-written with Blake Slatkin and Omer Fedi. The Sydney-based pair, Royel Maddell and Otis Pavlovic, recently gave the track its live debut at Governors Ball. Wistful and driving, “car” pairs melodic vulnerability with crisp, understated production as Otis croons:

Yeah I’ll meet you at the car on the corner, but we know it’s gotta change sometime.

Following sneak-peek performances at sold-out pop-up gigs across Toronto, L.A., and NYC, this intimate yet expansive record is already gaining global attention with “car” named BBC Radio 1’s Hottest Record. Building buzz both online and onstage, they also released a Red Lion Tavern acoustic performance showcasing their signature melancholic charm. It leads the way to their upcoming sophomore album hickey, due out August 22. Watch the official “car” video, stream the new single, and pre-order hickey now. Ride along with Royel Otis by following them on INSTAGRAM, TIKTOK, SPOTIFY, YOUTUBE, and X.
